What Dispatch Heard in October

Pedestrian, cyclist, and scooter strikes — vulnerable road users (VRUs) — plus crashes on corridors of interest (currently Braddock Road and Mount Vernon Avenue) on Alexandria’s public dispatch audio in October 2026. This log is very much in progress. Cards reflect what dispatch said in the moment; details and verdicts may be revised as more information surfaces. Companion to What Dispatch Heard in September, August, July, June, May, and the original April retrospective.

7:54:40 AM · AFD · 13s · 2 Bravo: a man on a scooter hit by a vehicle; still down, unknown injuries; PD responding
7:56:03 AM · APD · 9s · relayed as a hit-and-run; the victim got up and left, walking his scooter past the intersection

A man on a scooter was hit by a vehicle at North Pitt Street and Queen Street (Old Town North) in the Thursday-morning commute and left lying in the street; the driver fled, and by the time units arrived the victim had gotten up and walked off with his scooter. With both parties gone, this strike is unlikely to appear in any official record. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): this was a road-rage escalation — after an earlier interaction on Queen Street, the rider confronted the car at the intersection, knocked on the window, and tried to block it in; the driver “took off, striking the person on the e-scooter.” Minor injury; the case remains open for investigation.

Saturday, October 3 · 1:20 AM · West End · Seminary / Beauregard

Seminary Rd & N Beauregard St

A 20-year-old man on a scooter was struck by a vehicle at Seminary Road and North Beauregard Street (West End) at 1:20 on a Saturday morning, with injuries to the head and leg; conscious and breathing, and transported to Fairfax — the regional trauma center, which itself signals severity. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): confirmed a serious injury. The vehicle was southbound on Beauregard through a green light; the rider entered the crosswalk against the signal. No one was cited, and per the sergeant the investigation appears concluded.

A woman was struck by a Chevy work truck at South Washington Street and Green Street (south Old Town, on the Route 1 southbound couplet), mid-afternoon; she was conscious and alert, and southbound Washington was shut down for the response. The driver remained on scene — an officer documented the truck’s tag during the investigation (withheld here). Route 1’s Old Town couplet keeps producing strikes: Wythe (Sep 6), Pitt & Queen (Oct 1), Henry & Gibbon (Oct 6), and this one. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): minor injury; the driver was cited. (The sergeant couldn’t retrieve travel directions from the report.)

A man was struck by a driver at 2400 Eisenhower Avenue, in front of the Eisenhower Avenue Metro station, in the early Tuesday commute — reported by the driver himself, who called 911, hung up, and waited at the Metro. One patient, no critical injuries. The Eisenhower East cluster’s sixth VRU strike since mid-September. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): logged as a bicycle, not a pedestrian — both were westbound, and with road construction at that block the rider left the sidewalk, entered the roadway, and sideswiped the vehicle. Minor injury; no one was cited.

Tuesday, October 6 · 5:20 PM · Old Town south · Route 1

S Henry St & Gibbon St

The first of three VRU strikes in Alexandria within two hours that evening — see Slaters Lane and North Ripley Street. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): the vehicle was turning left from Gibbon onto S Henry; the cyclist ran the stop sign and was cited — the one citation of a struck rider in the batch (the sergeant noted officers are generally reluctant to cite someone already hit by a car). Minor injury.

7:25:45 PM · AFD · 18s · 2 Delta: Medic 206 departing for Fairfax Hospital with one patient; command terminated

An 11-year-old girl was struck and pinned underneath a blue Toyota RAV4 at 600 North Ripley Street at Holmes Run Parkway (West End), just after 7 PM. Several 911 calls came in at once; the response was upgraded to an entrapment and run as a formal incident command on 2 Delta — a tower ladder and rescue company lifted the pressure off her, airbags staged, and she was freed in about six minutes, conscious and alert, with a possibly broken leg, then transported to Fairfax, the regional trauma center. The driver remained on scene. The fourth child struck by a driver in Alexandria since September 3 — and the same West End pocket as September’s two North Pegram Street strikes. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Update (October 12): ALXnow reports she was pinned under the front axle, that the first-due crews — with heavy extrication equipment not yet on scene — improvised with ground ladders for leverage to lift the SUV, and that she was taken to Children’s National Hospital (the radio traffic at 7:25 PM had the medic heading for Fairfax) and is expected to make a full recovery. Per the APD crash report presented to BPAC (October 12, 2026): the child “was playing and ran into the roadway from in between two parked cars” when struck; the driver was not cited. (The report places it in the 700 block; dispatch and ALXnow say 600.)

Wednesday, October 7 · 2:56 PM · West End · Wheeler / Duke

2:56:47 PM · APD · 12s · hit-and-run, pedestrian struck at the fuel pumps near Wheeler & Duke; routine response, medics refused
2:58:05 PM · APD · 4s · a unit asks: confirming it was a school bus that hit him?
2:58:22 PM · APD · 3s · the answer: negative — the caller didn’t confirm, “just said a bus”

A pedestrian was struck by a bus — type unconfirmed; a unit asked whether it was a school bus and the answer was that the caller “just said a bus” — at the fuel pumps near Wheeler Avenue and Duke Street (West End), and the bus left the scene. Medics were refused, so the injury was minor; with no striking-vehicle detail beyond “a bus,” identifying the operator would need camera footage. A transit-vehicle strike-and-leave either way. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide.

Thursday, October 8 · 12:34 PM · Old Town · Route 1

Prince St & S Patrick St

A hit-and-run with injury on King Street, a block from City Hall — no vehicle description made the public feed. The second strike at a St Asaph corner in two weeks (St Asaph & Cameron, Sep 30). Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide.

Monday, October 12 · 2:51 PM · Arlandria · MVA corridor

The same intersection as the August 1 corridor hit-and-run — and the corner where the corridor meets the Glebe crossing that anchors Arlandria’s walkshed. A VRU strike on the Mount Vernon Avenue corridor.

A woman in her 30s was struck by a blue Toyota at John Carlyle Street and Duke Street mid-afternoon; the driver stayed, she was conscious and alert, and eight minutes in units downgraded the response to “minimal injuries.” The same intersection as the May 3 strike by Whole Foods. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Dot offset ~45 m east along Duke St to avoid stacking on may-05.

Thursday, October 15 · 7:19 PM · West End · Mark Center

Monday, October 19 · 5:46 PM · Eisenhower East · Hoffman

PedestrianHit and run
Hit-and-run pedestrian struck, routine response. Gristmill Place and Hoffman Street. Caller advised she was hit by a silver Lexus. [… tag — redacted.] Advised that it did stop but then kept going. Stated it hit her foot.
5:46:09 PM · APD · 12s · hit-and-run pedestrian struck, Gristmill Pl & Hoffman St; a silver Lexus

Everything after the striking vehicle’s description — a partial tag readback and the location where the caller met officers — has been withheld and redacted from the clip.

A woman was struck by a silver Lexus at Gristmill Place and Hoffman Street (Eisenhower East); the driver stopped, then kept going. It hit her foot — a routine response, no medics dispatched. The same intersection as the July 5 strike — the second pedestrian struck at this corner this year, and both drivers left. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide. Dot offset ~40 m north to avoid stacking on jul-04.

Tuesday, October 20 · 4:48 PM · Old Town North · Route 1 couplet

4:48:51 PM · APD · 22s · priority response; a cyclist struck by a black Volkswagen Beetle (dispatched as “Wood St”)
4:49:29 PM · AFD · 9s · 2 Bravo: units sent to Wythe St & N Washington for the bicyclist struck; PD responding

5:00:55 PM · AFD · 8s · one patient refusal obtained; engine going ready

A cyclist was struck by the driver of a black Volkswagen Beetle. Dispatch sent units to “Wood St”; the response traffic and the scene — the Exxon at Wythe Street and North Washington — reconcile it to Wythe. The cyclist declined transport. The scene reads as a rider hit at the lot’s edge by a vehicle leaving the Exxon — the kind of crash that can be deemed a non-reportable “parking lot” incident even when the person hit was on a bike beside a Route 1 couplet corner that already carries a September strike. Off both watched corridors; VRU strikes are tracked citywide.

10:20:39 AM · AFD · 8s · fire released; the ticket reopened on the PD side

A pedestrian was struck at North Fayette Street and Oronoco Street and made their own way to urgent care — the kind of strike that produces an ER visit but never a scene. She was down in the middle of the street, not moving but breathing; police ran priority one, an Arlington medic unit assisted, and westbound Cameron was closed with DASH and Metro diverted. ALXnow reported she was taken to the hospital. The most serious strike of the week.

Friday, October 23 · 1:03 PM · Lynhaven · Old Dominion

604 Notabene Dr at Old Dominion Blvd

ScooterHit and run
It’s going to be for a pedestrian struck. A male was hit while he was on a scooter. He’s complaining of arm, knee, and head injury. APD is on the scene.
1:03:33 PM · APD · 12s · an officer flagged down — a hit-and-run involving a scooter; the victim at 604 Notabene

1:06:55 PM · AFD · 25s · 2 Bravo: a man hit while on a scooter; arm, knee, and head injuries; APD on scene
1:24:24 PM · AFD · 13s · mid-transport, Medic 209’s destination changed from Alexandria to Fairfax Hospital

A hit-and-run with injuries on Notabene Drive at Old Dominion Boulevard — and the radio accounts of the mechanism are mixed, so this card records the uncertainty. The officer’s flag-down relay describes a man “hit by a scooter”; the fire channel’s more detailed version says he was hit while on a scooter — a scooter rider struck by a driver who fled, which is the reading this card leans on. What is not uncertain: arm, knee, and head injuries, and a transport that was upgraded mid-run from Alexandria to Fairfax — the regional trauma center. No description of the vehicle that fled ever aired, and no suspect lookout followed. “Otterbeam” and “Nottaveen” in the raw audio are transcription artifacts of Notabene.

Vehicle crashes and other corridor incidents (no confirmed pedestrian, cyclist, or scooter strike) on corridors of interest: Braddock Road (Phase 1 east, Phase 2 / Minnie Howard campus area west), Mount Vernon Avenue, and (from October 22) Russell Road, which traces the DRCA boundary. A no-injury hit-and-run at 100 Callahan Drive, in the thick of the King Street Metro / Amtrak station construction zone; the driver who left then called it in too, so it reads as a leave-then-report exchange. The first catch of the Russell Road auto-flag added October 22 — one to watch while station work keeps traffic in this pocket a mess. Tracked as a corridor incident (Russell Rd, DRCA boundary).

A two-car crash — a blue Cadillac and a Lexus — at North Radford Street and West Braddock Road; dispatched “unknown injuries,” and the medic was released within two minutes of arrival, so it resolved minor. The sixth incident at this corner on the record (three in May, a September crash, and the Phase 2 pocket’s recurring pattern) — the Braddock corridor’s most crash-prone intersection in this dataset. Dot offset ~58 m west along W Braddock; the corner itself is stacked with the May dots.
